We all have experienced adoption in one way or another. How you ask? Well, certainly you have a friend, a family member or an acquaintance that for whatever reason, adopted a child. In my case, it was my aunt. Here you had the sweetest woman in the world, the one woman who was born to be a mother, and she couldn’t. My aunt was born to be a mom, she is so sweet and loving. She became a special education teacher and has always loved working with children with disabilities. And to think that this naturally born mommy, couldn’t be a mommy. Then, she decided to adopt after many years of trying with her husband. And who did she adopt, a little baby boy who’s mom couldn’t take care of him, and he became her son. And this is why adoption is a win-win for parents and children.
I was already a teenager when my aunt adopted my little cousin. I was old because my aunt and uncle had been trying for so long. My aunt wasn’t a young mom, she became a mom in her late thirties. When I saw her for the first time with her brand new baby, even I as a teenager I could notice the total love and devotion in her eyes – this pure love that this baby who was not related to her biologically was getting from her.
Well, she was the best mom and she loved that baby boy like nothing in the world. She gave him a home, a set of parents and a life, and a family. He became my cousin and that’s that. It didn’t matter that we were not related by blood. I love him the same. You see this little boy who was adopted by my aunt has become an amazing young man. Great son, amazing musician (my uncle is a musician), fantastic student (student president of his class), future politician who I know will change the world. All of this, because my aunt and uncle decided to open their home and hearts to him, and a beautiful family life started. I have witnessed it, and I know how adoption is great for adoptive parent and child.
As a side note, after they adopted my cousin, my aunt actually got pregnant and had a beautiful baby girl. So doctors can’t explain it, it happens I guess. I personally think that my aunt was at last so happy, and so relaxed that her life long dream of being a mother came true that she actually got pregnant. And my cousin got a sister, and they are not related by blood, look nothing alike actually, but that bond is there. I would even say that their bond is stronger than biologically related siblings and parents. So this story of adoption has a real happy ending. God knows what would been of my cousin’s life had he not been adopted and the same for my aunt. But through adoption both parents and child had a happy life and still going strong.
